Lightspeed Media Corporation has filed a lawsuit in Illinois state court against several hundred potential John Doe defendants alleging that these John Doe defendants either hacked Lightspeed’s website to obtain legitimate user passwords or used the hacked passwords to get access to Lightspeed’s subscriber content.
The lawsuit asserts claims under the federal computer fraud and abuse statute, 18 U.S.C. § 1030 et seq., as well as common law claims for unjust enrichment, civil conspiracy, conversion and breach of contract.
