John Norkus has been practicing law for over 10 years, primarily focusing on real estate issues, both through litigation and transactional matters, as well as working with small businesses on a variety of litigation related issues that may appear in their day to day operations.

John has worked with several law firms, handling commercial litigation cases, including breach of contract disputes, partnership disputes, and a variety of other issues involving small businesses, as well as property disputes, such as partitions, quiet title actions, evictions, foreclosures, and related property disputes.  John also is an experienced probate attorney, which involves the distribution of assets following the death of a loved one or family member.

John was selected to be a part of the first class of the Justice Entrepreneurs Project (“JEP”), a legal incubator program, started by the Chicago Bar Foundation, focused on providing tools for newer graduates to begin their own law firms aimed at addressing the gap of underrepresented individuals and small businesses that do not qualify for legal aid, but are also unable to afford traditional legal fees. Through the JEP John worked with Lawyer’s Committee for Better Housing, working on Eviction Matters, Security Deposit cases, and other condition related cases. Additionally, he worked with CARPLS Legal Aid, a legal aid hotline for low to moderate income Illinoisans seeking quick legal advice on a variety of legal issues.

John founded the Chi City Legal law firm in 2016, which focuses largely on representing residential and commercial landlords, including assisting clients navigate lease drafting, evictions, disputes with tenants regarding security deposits or other damages, probate claims, small business disputes, and other various legal issues. In 2018 the Chi City Legal law firm was honored by the American Bar Association Committee on Delivery Of Legal Services with the Louis M Brown Award-Meritorious Recognition, for services provided to ease the delivery of legal services.

John has been licensed to practice law in Illinois since 2012.  He has served as “Of Counsel” to the DeBlasio Law Group since August 2024 and supports the firm on select client engagements.  He currently offices in Park Ridge, IL and his practice services clients across the city of Chicago as well as the Chicagoland area.

In his spare time, John and his wife enjoy hiking various trails around Illinois and Wisconsin, as well as trying new restaurants together, or catching some live music (nothing topping the smooth guitar chords of Carlos Santana).
